Come

GOAL: The dog bounds joyously to you whenever she sees the Come sign.

No behavior is more critical to any dog’s safety than a reliable come-when-called (recall). This is even more important for a deaf dog who cannot hear your frantic screams as she heads for the interstate. While it takes time and a lot of practice to get to reliability, it is certainly achievable. It helps if you frequently use Come for happy things rather than only when the dog’s fun is about to end (coming inside, getting in the crate, getting a bath or nail trim, etc.).
